Make Money Doing What You Love
I know my tip title sounds like a self-help book, but the truth does sound that way at times. In your life, you have undoubtedly done a lot of different tasks to make money. Most of us have. But have you ever made money doing something you love?
I have cleaned houses, sold newspapers, been an administrative assistant, been an account clerk, answered phones, baby-sat, been a student worker, waited tables, taught college classes, and had an 18 yr technical writing career, and that was only about half of my jobs. The whole list is way too long to mention in this post. But I did not love any of those things. All those jobs brought in a paycheck, but those tasks took more than they ever gave back in reward.
Now I am an author. I write. I publish. I market. It is just as hard as anything else I’ve done, but I LOVE the work. I love hearing from readers. I love planning the next book. My soul is willing to do all the hard tasks because even the most menial, awful bits bring joy.
So go bake cupcakes, walk dogs, make wedding dresses, carve furniture, or write a book. Start part-time. It’s a good way to see if you like truly like doing something you love for money. Some people find financial gain takes joy away. Not me, I hope to love my work for the rest of my life.
