You can have the finest clothes, the best training, and a red hot resume, however, if your self-talk isn’t aligned with your intention to get the job, you are missing a crucial interview component.
Self-talk is what you think and say about you, your intentions, and actions. Do you think you are worthy of getting the job? Are you thinking confidently about your skills and abilities? If not, give yourself a self-talk “check-up” before entering the interview so you can be at your most confident.
A self-talk check-up consists of these 2 things:
1) Examine what you are currently saying about yourself in relationship to the interview. You want to be thinking purposeful thoughts like “I am getting this job”, “I am perfect for this company “, or ” I am exactly what this company is looking for.”
2) Check your attitude. Is it powerful enough? A wishy washy attitude won’t do the trick. If you’ve been unemployed for an extended period, it can take its toll on your attitude and self-confidence.
Before the interview, take a moment to strengthen your attitude and confidence by visualizing yourself as a vibrant, energetic, confident, smiling, and focused person in the presence of the interviewer. Play this picture in your mind over and over again until you feel it in your entire being, while saying “I am confident, powerful, and right for this job.”
I know it can seen like they are only words and thoughts, however, you need to remember this- “what you think, so you become.”
